Re: Why even sell it for this cheap?
In general, selling at a loss is not illegal. The point it becomes illegal varies depending on the state (or federal law), and is somewhat arbitrary and vague, but typically only when you're trying to achieve or maintain a monopoly. However, I was suggesting that the second gas station should, rathe...

Re: Why even sell it for this cheap?
Unless I'm missing something, they're selling it for roughly half of what they paid for it , not counting taxes. If that's the case, it seems as though the smart thing for a gas station to do is to buy up all the gas from their competitor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dow_Chemical_Company#Early_his...

Re: Did you know we'll 'earn hatred' if we refuse refugees?
Ok I’ll bite. First, Ron Paul, because of the welfare state, doesn’t favor open borders. Many of the most prominent paleolibertarian theorists are against open borders (Rockwell, Rothbard, Hoppe, etc) for various reasons. Also, the government bringing in Syrian refugees has nothing to do with a libe...

1) I'm familiar with basic history. 2) Your post supports my position. You've listed causes of secession, not of the war. Once again, people are conflating the two. On the tariff issue, that was a tax on imports, not on domestic slave-produced goods. The issue there was that European imports would c...

It's technically considered a social science, in that it's the study of social interaction. I'm not speaking to anyone's politics, but I don't consider economics a science in the strict sense of the word. For instance, it's not like measuring how many kilojoules of energy are expended from a chemica...

Re: Upstate & cons, regarding rand paul....
I'm not sure why you think Ron Paul's foreign policy views are anything like Obama's. As I've pointed out plenty of times, President Obama immediately ramped up the war in Afghanistan, and hasn't exactly earned his peace prize anywhere else. Even candidate Obama argued in favor of bombing Pakistan. ...

Nope. The first one, the quinnipiac poll, included Rand (7%) in the polling data. Fox just left him out when they reported it.
The second one is a Fox poll. He wasn't included at all in the poll.

1) You’re changing the definition of voluntary. If a robber holds a gun to your head and demands your money, by your definition, you’re voluntarily giving it to him. African slaves in America were really working voluntarily. They could always leave, there would just be consequences. 2) Taxation is n...

This is (years) old news. What I don't understand is why David Boaz doesn't understand why Venezuela has a toilet paper shortage (tp is only one of many shortages they have). Cato should hire someone who's heard of the socialist economic calculation problem. Venezuela Reaches the Final Stage of Soci...

In hindsight, how much have Obama's drone strikes in over a half dozen countries done for you? How much did his trying to keep troops in Iraq beyond the Bush withdrawal date help you? How much did his escalation of the war in Afghanistan from 30k troops to 100k do for you? Be specific. Let me know h...

It doesn't even make sense that it's racism. As far as I'm aware, Target doesn't employ mostly blacks. What does make sense is that she's tall, so someone asked her to reach something. I get that sometimes in stores. Maybe they're being racist against me too? friendly when she told the story on Lett...

Nice article. Funny how chuck is so scared private ownership of guns that he wants my unloaded gun which is locked up in my home to be heavily regulated, if not criminalized, yet has less of an issue with the militarization of police, a group that actually uses their weapons. Pretty good piece (from...

The Great Thanksgiving Hoax
Each year at this time, schoolchildren all over America are taught the official Thanksgiving story, and newspapers, radio, TV, and magazines devote vast amounts of time and space to it. It is all very colorful and fascinating. It is also very deceiving. This official story is nothing like what reall...

That's pretty much it. He's conflating entitlements/legal rights and natural/inalienable rights. Your "right" to free health care is not the same type of right as your right to life. Your right to vote is not the same as your right to own your labor. Not to put words in his mouth, but I th...

What happens if you don't shovel the sidewalk there? Is there a fine like in DC? What happens if you don't pay the fine? Jail? It's interesting that businesses in DC will be fined $150 and homeowners only $25. Maybe I'm missing something. The government owns the sidewalk, but the adjacent homeowner ...
