Moral norms exist for a reason and are important.

This is a drum I've beat here before, but I just stumbled across this new study which supports my argument:

Monogamy was (and still is) a necessary trait for cooperative societies to evolve/exist. Polygynous cultures result in droves of military-aged men with no mates and no prospects, and the men who do have mates expend needless energy defending their "harems."

It's easy for people to lose the forest for the trees on stuff like this and say "who cares if three people want to hook up," but it matters if we care about leaving our children a world where they can live safely and productively, as opposed to <insert any country where polygamy is legal>.
