This is a lie.HvilleHokie wrote:Far be it for me to not pile on, but I’ll point out a couple of things:
1) the plaques will be moved to another part of the church
2) the altar is to worship God, not previous members
1. They will be moved "to a new place." That could be the garbage, but it's not at all clear that they will be publicly displayed at all, let alone in the church.
2. This is a lefty talking point trying to imply that they're part of the altar to be worshiped (the WaPo article repeats it). This is a lie. They are plaques bearing their signatures - marking the pews where they prayed during services. WaPo tries to be too cute by describing this as "either side of the altar" - yes, pews are on either side of the altar. The statement is a lie based on what it purposely omits.

Re: George Washington’s Church to Remove His Memorial...
Hopefully the Church will suffer enormous financial effects from this. I don’t see libs being the big donars to an old church, but could be wrong. I would assume it is held together by old money families in Alexandria, as there are many there. It is likely funds will dry up. All churches are run by a board of some kind and if they have a brain, they will replace the hyphen and return to normal.

A quick search reveals this church is living off of trust funds and endowments made by people who died a long time ago (including, it appears, Robert E. Lee... ironically). Their donations are and have been dwindling by the year, while they employ a staff of 18 people (including clergy...almost entirely women aside from cleaning staff, by the way) for a church which doesn't even see 500 parishioners a week.Bay_area_Hokie wrote:Hopefully the Church will suffer enormous financial effects from this. If God was completely comprehensible to the average person there wouldn't be anything that requires faith. Without faith, there is no test for belief. Faith is critical to Christianity.

SENIOR ASSOCIATE RECTOR
Ann is Senior Associate Rector. Ann brings to parish ministry a 20-year career as an actress in television and theater and 12 years as a yoga teacher.
Although currently an Episcopal priest with a passion for pastoral care, Ann Gillespie has had a long career in film, television and theater. Most notably, she appeared throughout the ‘90’s as Jackie Taylor, Kelly’s mom, on the hit television show, Beverly Hills, 90210. After becoming a priest, she reprised her role as Jackie on the new 90210 series.
Theater has always been her first love, but Star Trek fans may remember her recurring roles on Deep Space 9, and The Next Generation. She also guest starred on series such as Gilmore Girls, Judging Amy, and ER. She appeared as Fonzie’s girlfriend on the last season of Happy Days as well as starred in the TV movies, Living Proof about Country Western singer Hank Williams, and Kent State, the Emmy-winning miniseries about the 1970 shootings.
In the new millennium, Ann embarked on a new calling and in 2004, she and her family moved to Alexandria, Virginia, for her to attend seminary at Virginia Theological Seminary. She graduated with an M. Div. in 2007. She has been an Associate Rector at Christ Episcopal Church in Alexandria since 2007.

Yep, this church deserves to go under. The 'pastor' should be defrocked; and the obviously worthless congregation who advocated for this BS should be kicked out of the church. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Re: George Washington’s Church to Remove His Memorial...
10 of the Apostles were martyred. They weren’t blindly following Him. There were many witnesses to His miracles and death and resurrection. The Scriptures use the testimony of women, something totally foreign then. Luke is considered a great historian of the times and his details in his gospel and Acts are incredible. You should read them.....Not saying Jesus was a loon, but there are some unsavory figures in history who had blindly loyal followers as well.
It’s not just that though......if you have been saved and had your eyes opened to the truth, it’s the Word. When you can see Him in all of the OT and it’s constant pointing to Him......

Once again, you are actually the one lying...

And there is no reason to think they won’t display them elsewhere... just not at the alter.

PS - it's altar. Though your spelling is ironically appropriate for a church where everyone votes on what the Bible says.

Those aren't at the altar At best they are on a side aisle. They aren't even in your vision if you are looking at tge altar. Much ado about nothing.
