Good stuff Oak. As one who has supported third party candidates in the past, I applaud you for voting your conscience.

I'm voting straight Republican after voting third party in the past 3 or 4 state and national elections.oaktonhokie wrote:will vote for sanity in the lt gov and AG races, and although the socialist candidate for gov is a slug, i am through with the GOPe.
The Democrats have simply become too dangerous to our civil and economic rights. Even a "moderate" donkey would gut the first, second and fourth amendments. They have also become racist demagogues with little to no substance.
Just this week, for example, ip voiced his support for the government to insert themselves in the doctor/patient relationship and make decisions relating to the patient's treatment. Not only is this a violation of doctor/patient privacy, medical decisions should be left for the doctor and patient to make, not a bureaucrat.
Democrats have hit the tipping point- they will do a lot of damage to the world I am leaving for my kids unless they are stopped.

Meh.... the GA is going to remain firmly Republican. Even if Northram wins, he won't get much done on the Commie front.
I don't care if you're a Democrat or a Republican... if you refuse to consider alternatives to the two parties, you support the Status Quo and you are a major part of the problem.

Re: Pretty much decided in Gov's race, i'm not a gillespian.
Those are fair points and have largely been my rationale for voting for decades. I remember telling bob mcdonnell that it was great to actually vote FOR HIM instead of voting against his opponent. But that's pretty much what conservatives have done lately.
I am through voting for the Washington Generals; the team that is paid to lose to the harlem globetrotters for the entertainment of the fans. Pretend you want to win. Pretend you are doing your best. Pretend you don't have any idea what the other team will do in a given situation.
And when the repubs said they could do nothing against obama without the house or reprehensibles, they got it and acted like the washington generals. They then needed the senate and won it and behaved like the washington generals. They needed the presidency. They got it, and in true washington generals tradition, with bengazhi scandals, VA scandals, IRS scandals, email scandals, clinton foundation scandals, obama corruption scandals and socialist fires burning everywhere, they appoint a special prosecutor to investigate....their own president. And the idiot AG recuses himself because the socialists asked him to. And in the two and three holes at DOJ, there are obama socialists to run the investigation.
Republicans are friggin idiots. They don't want to rock the boat.
I said before the election and counter to many great thinkers, that a trump WIN would signal the end of the republican party and that would be a good thing. A trump loss would have been better for the Rs and kept their precious committee assignments and lobbyists contacts and secured another election or two for the washington generals.
I am more certain that ever, that the republican party has to be destroyed and rebuilt. And it will not be rebuilt by the likes of john mccain, jeff flake and ed gillespie.
I voted for trump and i'm proud of that vote. I would not have voted for jebbush, rubio or any of the other GOPe stooges.
I will not vote for someone to drive the bus who sees the socialist direction we're headed and wants to slow the bus from 100 mph to 95 mph. We need to change direction not change speed. And the republican party and it idiot leaders want to head for the same cliff the socialists do, only slower.
No more.

So driving the bus over the cliff at full speed is preferable?oaktonhokie wrote:

Unfortunately changing the direction of the bus is not an option at this point in time. We can't stop socialism we can only slow it down.

Re: Pretty much decided in Gov's race, i'm not a gillespian.
That brings me to my dooms day scenario.
If the election were between fat hillary clinton and jeb bush, i would not have voted. If my vote were the deciding vote and not voting elects fat hillary clinton as president of the united states, i would not vote. Allow me to explain.
I said before that the republican party must be shaken up or shaken apart. Sometimes you have to hit bottom before you can rebound. And certainly four or eight years of an increasingly feeble and feeble minded fat hillary clinton would have been disastrous for the nation. The continuation of marxist ideology begun by obama would have devastated the country.
But that may finally have shocked the majority of americans out of their complacency. A full scale revolt maybe even armed insurrection may have been necessary to wrest the country from socialist control.
So be it. (As opposed to SoVEit)
If you put a frog in water and slowly raise the temperature, the frog will slowly die. Frogs are stupid. If you throw a frog into very hot water, it will burn him and he will jump out. He may be scalded, he may be injured, but he will survive. And if he dies, he will die trying to escape the heat.
Suggesting that socialism cannot be stopped and that slowing it down is ok....is not ok.
Frogs are stupid. Republicans are stupid. Conservatives are not.

Don't agree at all with your voting plan, if the issue is neither fit you exactly you pick the one that best fits what you want in your government, not voting or voting for a third party person that has zero chance is useless.oaktonhokie wrote:That brings me to my dooms day scenario.

I get what you're saying, but I think you're giving the people way too much credit. Just assuming they would realize the error of their ways and correctly identify the problem is a mistake. Most of the people in Greece and Venezuela still haven't learned a damn thing.oaktonhokie wrote:That brings me to my dooms day scenario.

If there ever was a full-blown revolt, it wouldn't result in less socialism. It would result in MORE socialism and probably an uglier, more virulent strain of it.
And I don't think that simply slowing down socialism is "ok", its certainly not. I only said that right now (in 2017) its our only real option.

Re: Pretty much decided in Gov's race, i'm not a gillespian.
I was exactly where you are for many years. Not voting for an R is the same as voting for the D.
I changed my mind.
The Rs are so stupid, and even though the socialists are corrupt, and deceitful, i have grown tired of facilitating the weakness that is the republican party. I will no longer be an enabler.
We cannot defeat the socialists with socialism lite. We may have to take one step back before taking two steps forward. But i will not go gentle into that good night.
Frankly, if there were a different party, one not "lead" by mcconnel, paul ryan and idiots like that, i could be convinced to voting for them in an effort to keep the likes of fat hillary out of office.
But now, it would be like giving an addict $10 to keep him from selling his shoes for drugs.
No more.

Agree. If you have a choice between crummy & dangerous you go with crummy. The Democrat party has become so radicalized that it must be defeated whenever and where ever possible. If they keep taking defeats and keep losing money, then maybe they will eventually fold as a party. Then perhaps a new more conservative/libertarian party can emerge and become viable against the Republican party. Let the idiot lib socialist wonder around in the wilderness for the next 100 years or so.CFB Apologist wrote:Could not have said it better myself. Right now, the Democrat party is in such bad shape that it is on the verge of collapsing. Ive been reading where they have been putting all of their hopes on this VA race. A loss here would be truly devastating. Time to put them out of their misery.
