Someone filed a complaint, NBC investigated, says they have reason to believe it's not an isolated incident, and fired him.

I would never have picked Matt Lauer on the sexual harassment pool.

I like how the networks are now out no-tolerancing each other. It's a purging. Who would have thought all these folks plus O'Riely and the others part of the blood letting at Fox would be fired? The news has changed dramatically over the last year. The Bill Clinton Creeper passes are being revoked.

Story I just read says the Variety has been working on a story about it for months and NBC knew. This was a pre-emptive strike before the story hit.

While it wouldn't surprise me if companies try this, NBC News could have gotten rid of Matt Lauer before his last contract. Rumors of his side chick list are pretty well known in the media circles. He had to publicly come out and deny the Natalie Morales affair and love child rumors.

That's just stupid. It's a ratings game and people liked Matt Lauer so they tuned in for him. The people that anchor the show matter a great deal, just look at their ratings after his co-host left a few years ago and replaced with the news desk person (blanking on names and too lazy to search). The incremental loss of replacing him with someone that doesn't work is likely a lot more than his salary.
Will they get someone else, sure, will it be easy, probably not, and might take a few years.
