Should idiots be rescued while engaged in idiocy?

Post by awesome guy »

I'd have a hard time risking my life to save someone so stupid. I'd help up to the point of putting my life on the line and not an inch more. Dude is lucky he survived. Floods are no joke.

I have a very good friend who is a Captain on the Richmond FD...his station was one of the squads called out.
I only post using 100% recycled electrons.

Pretty sure a special permit would’ve been required to even be out there on Monday. The article doesn’t say if he had one. There are people in RVA equipped to handle a flooded James...and many many more who clearly are not. I’m one of the latter.

I see them training at Ancarrow"s in the spring. They're dedicated with a nice zodiac. I'd have gone with a Snake River style rock boat myself. That can push through a lot more water.

I think you missed my point.
There ARE people who have the skill set to paddle this stuff @ class 4-5.
...and even when someone is within their skill limit, bad things can and do still happen. I could die in a class 1 riffle, even though that would be within my skill set.

This guy appears to have had some skills:

In any event, the kid died. It’s sad.

That's true, it's still a gamble. One that I'm for taking as a life without risk isn't worth living, just be smart about it. Awful that the kid learned this at the cost of his life.
