What should have been done is to suspend interest on the loans (as a compromise) and also allow the loans to be considered under our bankruptcy laws.

And both of these should have gone through the legislative process and not via fiat.

To be clear, cancelling student debt rewards a corrupted education industry much more than it rewards overindebted students. It allows colleges and universities to perpetuate an inflated product.
