I’m pretty sure posters here have assured us that fraud cannot occur via mail in ballots

1) No one has said that fraud can't occur. Just that mail in ballots are accurate and secure.

.A New York Common Council Member has been charged with filing false documents after allegedly submitting fake signatures on an election petition ballot.

Rob Scott, who serves on the Peekskill Common Council, allegedly used dead people’s signatures and forged signatures to meet the 500 thresholds needed to get him on the ballot.

County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah reported that Scott used the signatures to land him a spot on the Democratic primaries ballot.

Scott has since been charged and arrested “for filing designating petitions containing forged signatures for a seat on the Westchester County Board of Legislators.”
