I went over to check. Still not sure who you're talking about, but that fishing thread is hilarious. JV fishermen giving all the advice. "You have to gently toss blood worms", "blood worms are out of style" "squid is better bait", "most fishermen love giving advice to newbies" LOL. All foolishness.
Blood worms...best bait for spot, croaker, and round heads/sea mullet. The smaller fishy looking fish. Fish bites is a good enough substitute. And you can launch it. If it flies off the hook, you're doing something wrong.
Squid...best for redfish and flounder(if bait fishing for them, drop shoting is the best way to catch flounder period)
Shrimp...really good for redfish too. Most anything will hit shrimp, but that does need a little care to not fling off the hook. You can salt it to toughen it up without losing attracting power.
Crab is one of the better baits as most things eat it and everything that eats crabs tastes great.
Most of the fish they're after are what I consider bait fish. So catch a couple spot or round heads, then launch them off the T with 8 ounces and a 10/0 hook to catch a cobia, bull drum, shark, etc. Get out of the pan fish, or as one friend puts it, "Andy Griffith bobber fishing". Or rent a kayak for the day and not have to worry with the knuckleheads on the pier.
