I was in Alaska trying to convince nit wit wanna be Enviromeddlers from San Francisco that the thousands of dead fish they "found" along the banks of the Wulik River was not a major fish kill of epic proportions but just spawned out salmon acting as Brown Bear food.

I was a few months from quitting a soul sucking job with a technology firm where I wrote software specs and user manuals for crappy cell phones. I had gotten recruited by a headhunter and was offered obscene money (relative to what I was making then and considering the the mind numbing work they wanted done) to take a hiatus from environmental work and write mindless crap that even fewer people read. Hell, even I didn't want to read it. That job was a lot like what most perceive as dot com hell. Sure, everyone was wearing shorts and flip flops to work, there were ping pong tables and karaoke machines in facility, and eggless egg salad in the onsite restaurant, but it just made me want a burger and demand that people wear pants to work. I still feel like I should say, "yeah... I did hard time (18 months) with Qualcomm/Kyocera."

My 5th grader was an infant. My two other kids weren't born yet. I made 44% of what I do now but I still drive the same car! 2000 Accord, although instead of a nice clean sedan it's now an absolute beater!
