Surgery August 13th...
On everything from my left elbow up to mid shoulder between my neck and rotator cuff.
Complete tears of the Supraspinatus muscle and Infraspinatus muscle..FUBAR'er the Coraco-acromial ligament...hosed the Ulnar nerve where it goes under the clavicle (Ulnar Nerve Innervation).
All because last May I reached around to pick up a 3 lb. hammer while building a fence.

If that is the price of a reach around, it's too high.

Staples and stitches came out last Monday...Passive physical therapy on the elbow starts tomorrow. Shoulder PT not for another month.
I'm still sore but tylenol/aspirin are holding pretty well...I got the strong stuff but I haven't had to take one since Saturday evening.

Re: Surgery August 13th...
Glad it wasn't a 9 Pound Hammer ( new book about our neck of the woods is coming out soon by a friend of mine-author who lives in Emory. My copy is on the way to me. I'll pass the info along to you after I check it out.)
Nine Pound Hammer
This nine pound hammer is a little too heavy
For my size, Buddy for my size
Roll on buddy, don't you roll so slow
How can I roll, when the wheels won't roll
I'm going to the mountain, just to see my baby
And I ain't coming back, no I ain't coming back
There ain't one hammer, down in this tunnel
That can ring like mine, that can ring like mine
Rings like silver, shines like gold
Rings like silver, shines like gold
This old hammer, it killed John Henry
Ain't gonna kill me, ain't gonna kill me
It's a long way to Harlan, and a long way to Hazard
Just to get a little booze, just to get a little booze
Buddy when I'm log gone, won't you make my tombstone
Out of number nine coal, out of number nine coal

With their Cap’n and Chief Intelligence Officer having deserted them, River, Ham and Joe valiantly continue their whataboutismistic last stand of the DJT apology tour.

Re: Surgery August 13th...
The sling brace is off as of yesterday! No more lugging that thing around!
I'm cleared to drive locally which I did today for the 1st time in 2 months.
Still going slow and easy with physical therapy...I still have at least 20 sessions left plus home exercises. We're just now entering active assist. My sawbones told me that most folks that re-tear their rotator cuff do so within 3 months...since mine was such a massive tear there will be no chances taken.
In some ways my elbow bothers me more than my shoulder. The doc said we've let the elbow be on it's own and the only thing he wants me to do is some flexing exercises to straighten out may arm...it's just about there. I'm also wearing a compression sleeve.
The torn bicep has healed and feeling gooderly.
The doc said today if we keep our fingers and toes crossed that I'll be back to abbeynormal sometime in the late spring.

Re: Surgery August 13th...
glad to hear your own the mend. You may be in good luck as I've recently taken up the role of UWS cripple with some form of sciatica affecting me and thusly giving you the opportunity to hide from the bad juju. I'll know more when I get the MRI and see an orthopedic next week, till then, I haven't been able to walk without experiencing the worst pain I've ever felt in my life. Even with oxycodone, my pain is off the charts. This growing old stuff sucks.Major Kong wrote:The sling brace is off as of yesterday! No more lugging that thing around!

Thanks. Drum and speckled trout season are looking over for me right when it started. Last night a friend called with "hey, wanna help skin a deer for a hindquarter? We're eating dolphin too". I about cried, missing the good eats too.Florida Hokie wrote:Ugh - I'm guessing that limits Kayaking opportunities. Hope you get it fixed soon.awesome guy wrote:glad to hear your own the mend.
