Thoughts on how to address the problems with the ACA
The democrats have stated on numerous occasions that they agree there are problems with the ACA that need to be "fixed". Like the republicans, they are vague on specifics.
The republicans have failed miserably in trying to rework this awful plan. IMO they need to stop what they are doing and turn to the democrats and say "It's your turn. You created this mess, you come up with a way to fix it". Tell them you want them to come up with a plan. Tell them you'll have the CBO score it. It's now wholly their problem, as it should be.
This completely changes the narrative. It will no longer be the mean old republicans trying to take our healthcare away. It will put the focus on the democrats and will keep in front of the public that the democrats forced thru congress an unworkable bill that they never read and never understood. It will force the democrats to own up to problems they created. And it will force the democrats to try and create a fix that improves care and brings down cost, something that will be impossible for them to do given their constituency. This puts them in a box. And it kills them in the mid-term elections.

The democrats are just posturing so they can claim they're not culpable, IMO. They all want it to fail, and in a spectacular fashion so the only alternative is single payer.

it was reported this morning by the local tv news that the state aca program for obamacare had increased premiums dramatically and there was even less choice than last year.... let it fail then the dems can explain why they did nothing133743Hokie wrote:The democrats have stated on numerous occasions that they agree there are problems with the ACA that need to be "fixed". If the GOP had any understanding of branding, they would start referring to single payer as "zero choices" or "zero options."USN_Hokie wrote:The democrats are just posturing so they can claim they're not culpable, IMO. Just like the republicans postured for 5 years, and then fell flat on their faces when they had to actually do something.USN_Hokie wrote:The democrats are just posturing so they can claim they're not culpable, IMO. The republicans need to show the public that the democrats are posturing, that they don't really want to improve the ACA. Thsi will hurt the dems. They'll be boxed in -- either stand pat, essentially telling the country the ACA is fine as it is, or step up and offer a fix, admitting that the original plan was flawed.

VA is getting killed this year. Only one carrier (Cigna) for the metro Richmond area. The state had to beg Anthem to come back in and provide Marketplace coverage in about 60 more rural counties that had NO provider. If I recall correctly the average increase is about 60%.cwtcr hokie wrote:it was reported this morning by the local tv news that the state aca program for obamacare had increased premiums dramatically and there was even less choice than last year.... let it fail then the dems can explain why they did nothing133743Hokie wrote:The democrats have stated on numerous occasions that they agree there are problems with the ACA that need to be "fixed". Agree. Put the onus on the democrats to fix their mess and crucify them at every turn for its problems and failures.

Demanding the democrats fix it is a sure way to guarantee that it gets worse.133743Hokie wrote:VA is getting killed this year. Only one carrier (Cigna) for the metro Richmond area. The Democrat-Socialists don't have control over either house, so I'm not sure how blaming their incompetence for your own incompetence will help. The Republicans have incompetent leadership. Or is it complicit 'incompetence'? Either way, Ryan and McConnell should be fired.

They created the mess. If it wasn't for Obama, Pelosi and Reed our health insurance/ healthcare system wouldn't be so screwed up and in shambles. The screwed it up, its up to them to fix it. Yeah, the Republicans really were inept trying to deal with it, but it still falls squarely on the democrats. They created the monster and they own it. And the Republicans need to put it squarely on their shoulders. It should be made clear to the public that this is a democrat created problem that they need to fix.HokieJoe wrote:The Democrat-Socialists don't have control over either house, so I'm not sure how blaming their incompetence for your own incompetence will help.
